Cooking Long Weekend - 3 nights / 4 days - arrival day varies
What’s included:

- 2 cooking lessons of 2 to 3 hours

Convivio Rome cooking long weekend
3 nights/ 4 day programme
 
Day 1: afternoon/evening - Arrive
Evening: Welcome dinner at 8.00pm. This is a relaxed, informal evening held in our 1500's family taverna, where you will be drinking the local wine and sampling different types of traditional foods from the Sabina area. During dinner, Sally will give you a brief outline of your cooking weekend.
 
Day 2:
Breakfast: Italian style taken at our local cafe.
Morning: Lesson # 1 + lunch. Our enthusiastic pasta expert Signora Lucia starts her cooking lesson with making fresh pasta out of eggs and flour. Pasta sauces and the importance of fresh ingredients, herbs and balance are discussed. More secrets are revealed to create a mouth-watering three course lunch.
Afternoon: Guided tour of an olive grove with Ruggero, followed by olive oil sampling with bruschetta and a glass of wine while overlooking majestic views of Sabina.
Evening: Dinner at our local restaurant in medieval Toffia.
 
Day 3:
Breakfast: Italian style taken at our local cafe.
Morning: Lesson # 2 + lunch. Italian cooking tips and secrets are revealed as Guido guides you through your second cooking lesson using seasonal ingredients, for 'primo', 'secondo' and 'dolce' (your three course meal).
Afternoon: leisure time: you can walk to the ancient monastery of Farfa or explore the winding streets of medieval Toffia.
Evening: Dinner at our local restaurant in medieval Toffia.
 
Day 4: Depart after breakfast, with hopes you will return soon.
Extend your Holiday
You are very welcome to extend your cooking holiday in your accommodation.

1-Day Convivio Rome

Morning: Pick-up at local train station approx. 10.00 am. Enjoy the beautiful drive through rolling hills, past olive groves and medieval villages on your way to spectacular Toffia. We will guide you through the cobbled lanes of Toffia on your way to our family home, where your cooking lesson will be held.
Cooking lesson  + lunch with local wine. Italian cooking tips and secrets about regional dishes are revealed while preparing a three course meal using only what's in season.
 
Afternoon: Informal guided tour around the stunning hilltop medieval village of Toffia with its winding cobbled roads and hidden piazzas, secret passage ways and intricately carved stone archways. This is followed by a mini tour around the streets of the nearby  monastic village of Farfa ('L'Abbazia di Farfa') with its amazing 15th c. frescoed church, and numerous art and craft shops including locally hand woven cloths.
 
Evening: 4.30 or 5.00 pm: Return to local train station.
Free local station pick up service:
 
Train from Rome: We will send you detailed & easy to follow instructions on how to get to your pick up point. It is very easy to take this direct modern train from anywhere in Rome (or the main Rome airport) to Fara Sabina station, where we will meet you and return you to at the end of your day out. Train departures are generally every 15 minutes. The train journey is about 40 minutes.
Train tickets cost from €2.30 to €2.70  Euros, one way, from Rome.

This is a relaxed and informal dinner, held in our family taverna, during which you can discover the unique flavours of traditional food from Sabina, as well as sample some of the best local wines. During dinner, Sally will give you a brief outline of your holiday.

Morning: Lesson # 1  + lunch. Italian cooking tips and secrets about regional dishes are revealed while preparing a three course meal using only what's in season.

Evening: Dinner will be taken at our local Trattoria (with traditional 'cucina della casa' home cooked food) in Toffia.
 
Day 3:

Pasta sauces and the importance of fresh ingredients, herbs and balance are discussed. More secrets are revealed to create a mouth-watering three course lunch. Afternoon: (optional) informal guided tour to visit the largest olive tree in Europe followed by a stroll around the nearby medieval village of 'Fara in Sabina'  OR you are free to relax.
Evening: Dinner will be enjoyed at our local 'ristorante' , set in the wine cellars of a renaissance palazzo.
 
Day 4:
Breakfast: Italian style taken at our local cafe.
Morning: Lesson # 3 + lunch. More Italian cooking tips and secrets are revealed as Guido guides you through your third cooking lesson using seasonal ingredients, for 'primo', 'secondo' and 'dolce' (your three course meal).
Afternoon: An informal tour around the streets of the monastic village of Farfa ('L'Abbazia di Farfa') with its amazing 15th c. frescoed church, and numerous art and craft shops including locally hand woven cloths OR free time.
Evening: Dinner will be taken at our local Trattoria (with 'cucina della casa' home cooked food) in the medieval village of Toffia.
 
Day 5:
Breakfast: Italian style taken at our local cafe.
Free day: to do as you please, at your own leisure. For example, you can take one of the beautiful local country walks and stop for a picnic lunch. Or, you can spend the day in Rome: we can help you plan your itinerary.
Final evening: Wine tasting evening and light dinner in our family's 500 year old taverna, with food & wine editor Guido Santi. This is an informal evening during which you’ll learn about different Italian wines and the wonderful native grapes that are grown in the region.
 
Day 6: Depart after breakfast with hopes you will return soon.

Airport pick up service and transportation by car:
 
Rome Ciampino airport: Easy-to-follow directions will be given to get you from this airport, via public transport, to our local train station, Fara Sabina, where we will meet you and return you to free of charge.
Or, please enquire about a pick up and return service with a private driver.
Rome Fiumicino/Leonardo da Vinci airport: from inside the terminal you can take a direct train (departures every 15 minutes) to Fara Sabina station, where we will meet you and return you to, free of charge. This train can also be taken from Rome.

Check-out time: before 11.00am.
Going to dinner: Extra dinners can be taken at the local Trattoria or, cook in your home, if you wish.
